BIOLOGICAL
TARGETS Inc. has products and technologies in the following areas:
•
Molecular Targets for Insecticide Development
- BTI has addressed the need for new targets by developing unique
approaches for target identification and screening of insecticidal
compounds. The Company has developed a proprietary technology
application platform, SPADE™ and DELVE™, to construct customized
gene libraries, InsectaCLONE™, and insect cell-based protein expression
panels, InsectOME™, that can be readily utilized to screen potential
insecticide targets, thereby reducing the time and expense associated
with insecticide development. BTI has built a mosquito-specific
potential target set, MosquitOME™ that can be used for simultaneous
screening of multiple proteins for rapid identification and validation
of new insecticides against mosquitoes. BTI also has identified
potential receptors for Bt insecticidal proteins, which will enable
the design of insecticidal proteins and new plant insecticidal
traits as well as provide for screening of insecticidal agents.
• Bt-based Biopesticides -
BTI has three new strains of Bt, which can be used to control
a variety of pest insects. One of the strains kills a wide range
of pests in three orders of insects: Lepidoptera (moths), Coleoptera
(beetles) and Diptera (mosquitoes and black flies) as well as
various nematodes. A second strain is highly efficient against
three major mosquito vectors, Culex pipiens, Aedes aegypti and
Anopheles gambiae, which transmit human and animal pathogens that
are responsible for causing protozoan diseases such as malaria,
filarial diseases such as heartworm and viral diseases such as
yellow fever, dengue fever and encephalitis. BTI’s mosquitocidal
Bt strain is dramatically more potent and much faster acting than
any other strain of Bt currently used in commercial vector control
products. The third strain, isolated in Texas,
kills the red imported fire ant.

Environmental Technology Products
- Improving soil stability, enhancing water and nutrient retention
and increasing its fertility are important in agricultural, farming,
land development and erosion control practices. BTI owns a unique,
biologically-based, non-corrosive soil improvement and soil-stabilization
agent, RECLAFIL™, which is useful for increasing soil water and
nutrient retention and controlling erosion. RECLAFIL™ is certified
100% organic by the Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI).
When introduced to a soil system, RECLAFIL™ provides a biologically
sustainable environment because it dramatically increases the
volume of water retained by soil (up to 500%). RECLAFIL™ improves
soil structure and enriches its organic matrix without any adverse
environmental effects. The market potential for RECLAFIL™ is immensely
high since it has broad applications in agricultural and industrial
practices including organic farming, vegetation and turf improvement,
land development, road construction, land reclamation, bioremediation
and erosion control.
